We’ve been looking for a good video tutorial on bleeds in InDesign for awhile now and today we finally came across one.

If facing pages is checked in document setup, InDesign will create inside bleeds using part of the opposite page when exporting to pdf. For saddle stich jobs, these false inside bleeds don’t get printed, but are needed for each page to center correctly when they are placed in printer spreads.
When designing a job for perfect binding, remember to un-check facing pages in document setup so that inside bleeds are visible. For perfect bound jobs, inside bleeds are printed.
Use 0.25” bleeds for covers and newsprint that will be trimmed.
