Sheetfed File Requirements
* Do not send us your InDesign files. Use the settings below to export a pdf to upload to us.
- Be aware that rich black or CMYK black text will not print well in most situations. You are responsible for checking your file for rich black text.
- Keep content 1/4” away from the edge of the document.
- Color images can be left as RGB as long as the GRACoL 2006 profile is selected as the working CMYK color space under “Edit” menu > “Color Settings” and “View” > “Proof Setup” is set to “Working CMYK”.
- To install the GRACoL 2006 profile, download it. In Windows, Right Click, Install. On a Mac, place the profile in Macintosh HD / Library / Application Support / Adobe / Color / Profiles
- Black & white images must be in grayscale color mode for pages that only use black ink. [Did you know?]
- All images should be at least 300 dpi at their final size. Images from the web pages are only 72 dpi. Enlarging an image decreases it’s resolution.

When creating a new InDesign document, you can enter the number of pages. By default Facing Pages is checked. If you are designing for a perfect bound book, Facing Pages must be unchecked so that you can design with an inside bleed. If you can’t see the settings for Bleeds click on the More Options button.

If you have already created your document, from InDesign’s File menu, select Document Setup. Here you can change settings such as the Number of Pages, Facing Pages, Width, Height, and Bleed.

- InDesign Export to PDF settings. Adobe PDF Preset: Press Quality. Compatibility: Acrobat 5/PDF 1.4. No printer marks. Uncheck Optimize for Fast Web View. Uncheck Spreads.

- All Print’s Marks should NOT be checked. Use Document Bleed Settings should be checked. If the bleeds are zero, you need to go to Document Setup to change the bleed settings.
- Do not include any printer marks as we do not need them. If including crop marks, they need to be offset by 1/4” so that they don’t interfere with the bleeds.
- Bleeds - Images or background colors that need to appear to run to the edge of the document must actually extend at least 1/8” (0.125”) to 1/4” past all sides of the document that will be trimmed. (Please view the images to the right for bleed and pdf export settings from InDesign.)
